Philodendron Dean McDowell
*PLEASE NOTE: You will receive the exact plant as pictured
The beautifully textured dark green leaves with creamy white veins are the highlight of this Philodendron. Also known as the Philodendron McDowellii (or McDowell), it’s thought to be a hybrid between the Philodendron Gloriosum and another unknown variety. Whereas the Gloriosum has a velvety surface, the McDowell is smooth and shiny. It has a vigorous growth habit and will grow very big.
THIS SPECIFIC PLANT: Has three leaves, and should be left in Spag. moss to further propagate, and form a sturdy root system. Please do not purchase if you are not familiar or confident in propagation.
CARE: For the first few weeks keep the plant you receive from us exclusively in sphagnum moss (the amount we send to you in the pot is definitely enough to get the plant through the first week. The sphagnum moss you keep your plant in should be very loosely packed in the pot, very fluffy and allowing for a lot of air circulation. The sphagnum moss your plant is in, should always be kept just slightly moist and never wet for longer periods of time, this can lead to root rot very quickly. Make sure that the plant is in an environment with high-air-humidity (ideally over 65%, 70% and higher). Make sure the plant receives enough light, no direct sunlight. Make sure the plant is in a well-ventilated space, even if it is a terrarium or a greenhouse. When you notice fresh root growth (1-2cm) on your plant, you can either replant it to a bigger container to your favourite mix or more sphagnum
